What Happens on Your First Chiropractic Visit?

September 7, 2026

At our Overland Park chiropractic office, we have streamlined our new patient visit to get you the answers you are looking for without spending your whole day in a doctor’s office. We also offer same-day new patient appointments, often with walk-in availability. Convenience and effectiveness are our trademark. Here is what a typical new patient visit will look like.

Once you arrive at Nigus Chiropractic, there will be a few intake forms to fill out. This is the typical intake involving contact information, what is bothering you, and also our HIPAA form (patient privacy and consent to care). That last one only needs a signature, and filling out the intake forms only takes a few minutes. If you have insurance, we take a quick copy of your card to save you the handwriting.

After the forms are filled out, Dr. Nigus is usually ready to have a consultation with you. During this conversation, he will ask more details about what you are dealing with and other related questions to make sure chiropractic is a good fit for your condition. This is also an opportunity for the patient to ask their own questions. We can determine pretty quickly if chiropractic care is appropriate, and if it is then we can proceed to doing an examination. If not, Dr. Nigus gives patients some alternatives to seek out. Consultations are always at no charge, so if you are interested in talking with a chiropractor before making any decisions, consider our office.

During the examination, we take necessary X-rays to see specifically what is happening with the spine. Other physical exam tests are used to gain the appropriate information; this way we are treating the proper root cause of your complaint, not just the symptom. From here, Dr. Nigus provides a relief treatment.

Our goal is to get you feeling better on this first visit. A relief treatment is safe, and a great test to see how your body may respond to chiropractic care. In extremely acute and inflamed cases, such as after an injury, the relief treatment may be tailored towards speeding up the acute phase of care. Either way, we do what is specific and appropriate for your care.

The whole new patient process ranges between 15 to 30 minutes depending on the patient’s complaints. We get you in, get you answers, get you feeling better, and get you back out to your day.

On further visits, Dr. Nigus goes over more x-ray findings and a plan of care. Pain relief is important–we all want to feel better if we are dealing with pain–and we come up with a plan to keep your body stable rather than waiting for the next flare-up.

If you are considering chiropractic care, few offices are as easy to get into as Nigus Chiropractic in Overland Park. When you are in pain, you don’t want to wait. That is what makes our new patient visits different!
