Can Chiropractic Be Gentle?

July 20, 2026

Let’s face it. Not everyone wants to be twisted and pushed on by their chiropractor. There are people who crave being turned into a pretzel, but the majority of patients want the gentlest approach that is effective. Chiropractors learn dozens of different techniques and continue learning more approaches through their careers, giving the practitioner a flexible supply of techniques for each individual patient.

There are techniques that involve small pressures and stimulation rather than putting big movement into a joint. Here is the truth about how chiropractic works: the main response is neurological. We are not trying to “move bones back into place”. What we want is a neurological response that calms inflammation, restores proper tone to the nervous system, and allows the body to return to its normal state. This doesn’t require a pop or snap.

I am amazed every day at the results we can get from gentle techniques. Patients sometimes leave feeling like not much was “adjusted” in their spines, but later that day or next morning they wake up feeling like a new person.

If you prefer a gentle approach, tell your chiropractor. Even traditional techniques can be modified to be less forceful. No chiropractor wants their patient to leave the office having a poor experience. Part of the selection of what technique to use on the patient is the individual patient’s preference. You prefer to be lit up like a firecracker? Tell your chiropractor and let them choose the technique that will be most effective. Do you instead prefer a gentle chiropractic approach? Tell your chiropractor, and they will use an effective, gentle technique.

At our Overland Park chiropractic office, we specialize in gentle techniques. The most important thing is results, but if we can do it with a gentle approach then that is typically the best for the patient. We have an assortment of different approaches. X-ray analysis helps us determine which technique will give you the best, fastest results.

Whenever you call a chiropractor for a consultation, feel free to express what you are looking for in a treatment modality. Not all chiropractors are meant for every patient, but chiropractic care is good for everyone. You will find the right match for what you are looking for. If we can be of service, give our Overland Park office a call!
